How to make a dark place look brighter

Imagine you walk into a room that has been decorated with bright colors like yellow and green, with various variants of these colors being used. You not only have a gush of feelings of happiness and joy, whereas you also feel like you're in a much bigger space than the room you just came from, washed in rather dark colors and darker tones. That is because bright colors are usually used in room decoration and painting as they make the room look a lot bigger and rather spacious. Whereas,the aforementioned statements are not true for all bright colors. Therefore, if a room has been painted all blue or green, it is probably going to look more smaller than it is. Hence, the bright colors need to be more carefully contrasted with lighter colors like white grey or light blue etc, to cause the desired effect. Although some studies have disapproved of this argument on the basis that the spaciousness of the room depends upon the amount of natural light entering into the room, most are inclined towards backing the aforementioned statement.
Apart from altering the perception regarding the area of the room, the use of light colors in a room also leads towards altering the perception of the height of the room. For example, a few studies have shown how , when a light color like a white or a blue is used in a room with a lower ceiling, it would look somewhat less oppressing. In other words, we can also say that the light colors tend to increase the height of a particular room.
Hence, when considering decorating a small and a dark hallway, one must keep the aforementioned things under consideration. In order to make the hallways look like having a greater height, a lighter color like a yellow or a white is directed to be used. I used brilliant white paint, and painted a yellow line on the while this creates distractions and the yellow colour gives the brightness.
In order to make the area of the hallway and the toilet look bigger than it really is, it is advised to make use of a color combination of light colors with bright colors like the combination of yellow, with light colors like white or blue. The use of such colors and color variants in a smaller room or a hallway shall serve the purpose of altering the perception of an individual present inside the room and ultimately, serve to make the room or the hallway to look a lot bigger than it actually is.
My toilet is very small and there is no window no natural light , I used yellow paint on front wall, when you enter the toilet the bright yellow color brings the sense of a happy sun and it has a huge impact in lighting the toilet.
As I have used in my design, the presence of geometrical shapes in an interior design of the runner and the decorative line on the walls,using variants of bright and light colors, also serve the perception of altering the perception of an individual’s regarding the spaciousness and area of the room or the hallway as a whole.
Various studies have also proved that the use of geometric shapes makes the individuals feel as if the space or area of the room has been altered . Whereas once measured, it shows how the area remains the same whereas, the extension of the geometric shape in a particular direction makes that part of the wall look denser and bigger.
