Updated: Apr 7, 2021
Ever wondered how you could make a small area or a small room look bigger and more spacious than it actually is, through the use of various interior designing techniques? This article is going to cater to the aforementioned technique of making smaller rooms and spaces look bigger through various techniques, either through the color of the walls or the decorative items being used In the room.
Initially, a suitable color needs to be decided because colors play the most crucial role in making the room look more spacious and bigger. Hence, we shall be making use of yellow color, with a contrast of white color on the walls. The ceiling of the room shall be painted with Yellow, since it makes the height of the ceiling looks taller than it actually is. The rest of the walls will be painted with a color combination of yellow and white, making the surface area look more spacious. The floor will be made from wooden panels, installed in a parallel fashion to the room, running from one parallel end to the other, automatically make the room look bigger and more inviting.

A white rug will be placed in the middle of the room below the furniture. The rug will be without any texture and bigger in area, rather than placing a number of small rugs because big light-colored and non textural rugs play a very significant role in making the room look bigger and more spacious. Whereas, the rug will not be as big as the whole floor, because then the room shall look smaller. Therefore ,the size of the rug shall be carefully measured in contrast with the area of the floor , which will not only make the room look bigger, but aesthetically beautiful as well.

A cupboard will also be added in the room, but it needs to be taken into consideration that
the cupboard does not need to be placed in the room, protruding outwards, whereas ,the cupboard shall be in built i.e. in the walls. The cupboard doors should be painted with white paint, with the inside of the color being in the contrast of white and yellow , making the cupboard looking spacious as well.

Minimalist furniture in a monochromatic yellow or a combination of yellow or white shall be placed in the room. The height of the furniture shall be lower, so that they leave more space above them, giving the sense of spaciousness of the room. Similarly, such furniture should be selected that does not directly touch the ground, whereas has some small legs or supporting arms,to make the sofa or a table stand above it. This gives a breathing space to the room on the floor as well, altering the perception of space from above and below the furniture as well.
